Progress Update

Personal Log of Sgt Kegan Dibley, 3rd Fire Brigade

It feels like it has been months since we were in Texas, but it has barely been a full week. Prave returned with Samuel Running-Wolf and the animated corpse of a Union soldier. Viv explained to me how they left the basement safehouse from the sewers and that Dodge left for Canada. I can’t imagine Dodge would turn against us, but McKinley brought up that our position, and that basement, have been compromised. At best Durango could be captured and interrogated.

Now we’re left in a delicate position. Our best hope with so many wounded and fatigued, not to mention the state that Richard Mathews is in, seems to be out in the woods. Viv and McKinley, Velot and Alice, set out to find food and possibly shelter. This may be our only hope.

For now we can eat the dear that Viv just shot and wait to see if Velot or Alice found somewhere isolated enough to be used.

Personal Log of Sgt Kegan Dibley, 3rd Fire Brigade

McKinley, Alice, James, and Velot just returned from scouting the prospective safehouse. Apparently it did not go well. They also brought the comatose form of Richard Mathews, hairless, covered in old burn scars, and reverted back to his true face. McKinley and the others were hesitant when I asked them how they saved his life from, in Alice’s words, “a chest full of lead”. They probably thought I would scold them for using what has to be untested magic. I will of course, but they can tell me all about it once everyone is rested.

Dodge, Prave, and Viv still haven’t returned from looking for the Communications Mage. Hopefully the rampant burning of what should have been our new safehouse will provide a decent distraction. Then after that I hope they find the mage and bring him here alive. Aside from that all we have are the ritual supplies Alice grabbed. I suppose we should be thankful we’re still alive, all things considered. I never even said goodbye to Axel. He was a fellow fighter and his death just reaffirms that I am fighting for the right side.

Personal Log of Sgt Kegan Dibley, 3rd Fire Brigade

With hope, these notes will survive long enough to reach the South.

Dr Prave and the short, though fearsome, Viv found us while we were resting. Events spiraled completely out of control over the next twelve hours. Through a series of bird calls Prave convinced Dodge Durango that he was outside. This was not communicated well to Fire Specialist McKinley, who lobbed a fireball directly at Prave’s chest, incapacitating him. Tempers were high after that. Specialists Alice and James used a combination of magic and first aid to stabilize Prave.

For a moment I though Dodge was going to shoot McKinley, and I was worried McKinley would set fire to the house if he was provoked. In the short time I’ve worked with him he has proven himself to be effective, albeit unstable. The same could be said about Prave, Dodge, our new compatriot Velot, and to my surprise, the seemingly level headed Richard Mathews.

The true misfortune struck when Dodge left to find a hospital, he promised to scout it out and return with supplies if possible. Viv took this time to share a bit about how she skewered and choked a man so that Prave could possess him and lead them away. I find myself respecting the two of them, their ingenuity. I also see that Viv is capable of regret and guilt over the death she is capable of causing, something I am not sure I have the capacity for any longer.

Dodge returned with a nurse, suddenly we became kidnappers. Velot hoisted the nurse into the air with his mind to restrain her. Our position was now compromised and Dodge was getting an earful from everyone, myself included, about how irresponsible his actions were. Dodge’s rash decision is overshadowed by Richard Mathews teleporting into the poor girl and causing the space she occupied to burst, as Volot explained to me in excruciating detail later. Blood went everywhere. I can’t even recall what happened next. Volot removed Dodge’s rifle, I took custody of it, and things were heated.

When the dust settled we started to devise a plan. I guess it took that shocking event to calm us. At the moment we are awaiting the response to a teleported note back to the Institute. This log will be updated whenever possible.

Field Notes

Something that did concern me about the raid upon the Confederate safe house was that many reported bullets passing through a man that was made of fire, he only grinned and laughed at them. Being a psionic and fighting mages has caused me to take heed of such rumors. I propose that HQ develop countermeasures against such a foe, what those would be I cannot begin to say.

After speaking with more members of the raid it also seems that we wounded several of the Confederate survivors, as well as the man we believe to be a disguised Richard Mathews. They are weak, this is when we are the strongest.

Just don’t forget that Velot was sighted in New York within the last month and Dr Prave is still unaccounted for. I suggest we assign the team that is handling the Mindflare to keep tabs on Velot. As for Prave, he’ll surface soon enough. Nothing more to report.

Field Notes

It seems as though my arrival in New York could not have come at a better time. Seeing Smith Lee Ellington give up his compatriots was a thing of beauty, even if we can’t take full credit for it. Bea Ann Donna’s chance meeting with Dr Prave was the nail on the coffin for them, unfortunately not actually for Prave. Though it will delight me to no end if I get to kill him myself. His new friend from the South, the small woman, should not be underestimated, much like Prave himself.

Despite heavy losses among the raid on their safe house and Bea’s apartment I am calling last night a successful operation against Confederate presence in the North. I mistook Smith for a prissy fool, but it seems we were all proven wrong when he dropped that grenade on Axel Esslinger. Smith will prove to be a valuable ally to the North, and more importantly to the Psionics. Every day I am thankful for what you have allowed me to do, sir. My sister will be avenged. Nothing More to report.

Loss of Contact
Progress Update

To: Col. Avery Tate
From: Lt Holly Ferric

Last night we lost contact with the Anderson House outpost in New York. Currently it is unknown what happened on the other side but we are dedicating communication mages to the task at once.

The last update we had from Sgt Dibley suggested the group new was moving on the Psionic Bea Anne Donna, while the Fredricks group was scouting The Mansion.

Will update you as soon as possible.

After the transformation of our faces, and in Smith’s case his body, we arrived as planned New York. The house that was chosen is very nice, though I suppose that is not relevant to the mission. We met with Sister Bunny, an odd character to be sure. Though she proved very useful in the few days she was with us. Axel is perhaps made even more odd with an American accent. But he is very polite in the household and we have taken turns making embarrassingly inedible breakfast each morning.

We attended Brian Loumin’s party, a nice affair in which Smith, under the guise of Doug Frederickson read a poem to the whole party. It was unsettling well written, especially considering I know his true identity. I believe at least one audience member cried. Sister Bunny orchestrated a meeting with Mr Loumin so we planned and waited.

From what I understand of the events Bunny was invited into the apartment of Brian Loumin, lodged a knife into his head and Smith lowered his body to the ground. A fight erupted with the guards and all were taken out shortly. Bunny vanished after that. What a thing for a nun to do, it is not my place to judge though. The first target was taken out and that is all I have to report.

Progress Report

To: Col. Avery Tate
From: Lt. Holly Ferric

So far the activities of the Virginia Team in Dallas have been included in the reports concerning the siege. After our latest meeting there were some noteworthy developments though.

Axel Esslinger expressed interest in Sgt. Hargrove’s gun contraption and proposed several ideas. Hargrove is even allowing Axel to test out the cherry bombs. I thought of asking him if that was wise but I held my tongue. Axel may prove very useful to Capt. Amy, Hargrove, and their band of Tinkerers.

Then there was the evening Dr Prave and Dodge Durango had. Dodge entered a brothel, not an unusual sight, though Prave remained outside. The peculiarity of the situation increased when a nearby mage reported a ritual took place after Prave used a grapple hook to shamble in a second story window. Shortly after Prave exited the same way with one of the whores, who seemed overly familiar with him. For the rest of the evening the two, accompanied by Elden Inglebard, bought the woman clothes and purchased a fancy meal.

I have no idea what this implies, but it doesn’t appear to be a threat to us.

Siege Of Dallas
Field Notes

During the battle our agents found their stagecoach, no case was found, only trace amounts of cobalt. We can only assume the Confederacy, namely the mages, have their hands on the shipment. There will be more on that in my next message.

One agent witnessed the group slay your experiment. Twice. Then he narrowly avoided Axel Esslinger, who made for the craftsmen quarter to aid the mages. They took back that section of the city in mere minutes. Thankfully the concentration of combat in front of the Institute of Magic went largely in our favor. There were heavy losses on both sides before we determined the shipment was not in the building. Magic is as frighteningly powerful as ever.

Last I heard they were in a meeting with one of the earth mages. Any other information is beyond our ability to track while they are in Dallas. As a side note, Wilkes has made it very clear the army may not be completely dedicated to the war, I leave that to you. Nothing more to report.

Arrival In Dallas
Field Notes

From my position I am aware that the group who stole the shipment has arrived in Dallas. The army is approaching at a reasonable pace. I fear we may not recover the cobalt. I know what your opinions are and I hesitate in adding my own, but this could mean war. HQ should brace for that eventuality, make sure we strike first and strike hard.

I have a lot of traveling before I reach Texas. Nothing more to report.

Agent Vickers
